Login and Access Issues

Most login problems in nSpec come down to one of a few causes: a typo in the email, an SSO redirect issue, an expired session, or a missing permission. This article walks through the most common login and access issues and how to resolve each one.

nSpec uses a two-step sign-in:

  1. You enter your email address and click Verify Email
  2. nSpec checks whether your account uses Microsoft SSO or a regular nSpec password
  3. SSO accounts get redirected to the Microsoft sign-in page; non-SSO accounts see a password field appear on the same screen
  4. After successful authentication, you’re sent to the dashboard (or, on Procore tenants, to the Procore login screen first)

Problem: The Verify Email step says your email isn’t valid or doesn’t exist.

Solutions:

  • Check the spelling of your email — typos in the domain are easy to miss
  • Make sure you’re using the email your administrator used when creating your account, not a personal email
  • Confirm the account exists by asking your administrator to look you up in the Employees screen
  • If you have multiple email addresses with your organization, try the others

Problem: You enter your email, get redirected to Microsoft, but the sign-in fails or you end up back on the nSpec login screen.

Solutions:

  • Sign in to outlook.office.com or another Microsoft service first to confirm your Microsoft account is working
  • Clear your browser’s cookies for nSpec and Microsoft, then try again
  • Try a different browser (Chrome, Edge, or Safari)
  • If your organization uses MFA, complete the second factor when prompted
  • If you’re on Safari/iPad and the page just keeps showing a spinner, refresh — recent fixes improved iPad SSO redirect handling but stale tabs may still need a refresh
  • Confirm with your administrator that your nSpec account is configured as SSO (not non-SSO)

I forgot my nSpec password (non-SSO accounts)

Section titled “I forgot my nSpec password (non-SSO accounts)”

Problem: You can’t remember your password.

Solutions:

  • On the sign-in page, enter your email and click Verify Email. When the password field appears, click Forgot Password?
  • Follow the email instructions to reset your password
  • If you don’t receive the reset email within 5 minutes, check your spam folder
  • If still nothing, ask your administrator to reset your password from the Edit Employee modal (they can click “Set Password” on your record)

My session expired or I keep getting signed out

Section titled “My session expired or I keep getting signed out”

Problem: nSpec keeps asking you to sign in, even after a few minutes of activity.

Solutions:

  • Sign out completely and sign back in to refresh your session
  • Clear cookies for nSpec specifically (not all sites)
  • Check your browser’s privacy settings — strict tracking protection can interfere with session cookies
  • If you’re on a shared computer, make sure another tab isn’t signing you out
  • For Procore tenants, your nSpec session and your Procore session are separate. If only the Procore part is failing, see Procore Permissions Guide.

“Access denied” when opening a screen or item

Section titled ““Access denied” when opening a screen or item”

Problem: You can sign in but can’t open a specific screen or perform an action.

Solutions:

  • This is a permissions issue. Your role doesn’t grant access to that feature.
  • Ask your administrator to check your role in the Employees screen and assign a role with the appropriate permission
  • Common cases: View Clients (VC), View Employees (VE), View Analytics, Delete Projects (DPROJ)
  • See Roles and Permissions for the full permission list

I think my account is locked or deactivated

Section titled “I think my account is locked or deactivated”

Problem: Sign-in fails and you suspect your account is disabled.

Solutions:

  • Ask your administrator to open the Employees screen and check the Is Active checkbox on your record. If it’s unchecked, ask them to reactivate you.
  • If your administrator confirms you’re active and the issue persists, contact support@nxtconstruction.ai

Procore login required but the button doesn’t work

Section titled “Procore login required but the button doesn’t work”

Problem: You’re a Procore tenant user and the Procore Authentication Required screen won’t sign you in.

Solutions:

  • Make sure you have a Procore account on the same email or one your Procore admin has linked
  • Try signing in to app.procore.com directly first to confirm your Procore credentials work
  • Clear cookies and try again
  • If you keep getting “access denied” from Procore, check your Procore permissions — see Procore Permissions Guide

Problem: Sign-in succeeds but the dashboard doesn’t load.

Solutions:

  • Refresh the page
  • Try a different browser (Chrome, Edge, or Safari recommended)
  • Clear browser cache and reload
  • Disable browser extensions (especially ad blockers and privacy extensions) that might interfere with the app
  • Open the browser console (F12) and check for errors — they may give a clue about what’s failing

Problem: Your administrator created your account but you can’t find the invite email.

Solutions:

  • Check your spam/junk folder
  • Ask your administrator to resend by opening your Edit Employee modal and clicking Send Invite (or Set Password for non-SSO)
  • Verify the email address on your account is spelled correctly
  • For SSO accounts: confirm the email is on a domain registered with your Microsoft tenant

nSpec is tested and supported on:

  • Google Chrome (latest version) — recommended
  • Microsoft Edge (latest version)
  • Safari (latest version, especially for iPad users)

Internet Explorer is not supported. Older browser versions may have compatibility issues — keep your browser up to date.
