NSPEC Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions about nSpec. If your question isn’t answered here, browse the rest of the help center or email support@nxtconstruction.ai.
General
Section titled “General”What is nSpec?
Section titled “What is nSpec?”nSpec is a web-based field inspection platform built for construction professionals. You use it to record observations, take and tag photos, generate inspection reports, and (for Procore-integrated tenants) sync action items to Procore. See Getting Started with nSpec for the complete intro.
What URL do I use to access nSpec?
Section titled “What URL do I use to access nSpec?”https://inspect-app.nspec.app — works on any modern browser.
What browsers does nSpec support?
Section titled “What browsers does nSpec support?”Chrome, Edge, and Safari are all supported, latest versions. Internet Explorer is not supported.
Can I use nSpec on my phone or tablet?
Section titled “Can I use nSpec on my phone or tablet?”Yes. nSpec is fully responsive and works on mobile browsers, tablets, and iPad. For the best mobile experience, add nSpec to your home screen so it loads like an app.
Does nSpec work offline?
Section titled “Does nSpec work offline?”Yes, for NSPEC tenants. Open the Offline Hub from the sidebar, click Enter Offline Mode while you have a connection, then work in the field without internet. When you reconnect, sync from the Offline Hub. See Offline Hub Guide. Procore tenants cannot use offline mode because Procore sync requires a live connection.
Account
Section titled “Account”How do I know if I have an SSO or password account?
Section titled “How do I know if I have an SSO or password account?”Enter your email and click Verify Email. If nSpec redirects you to Microsoft, you have an SSO account. If a password field appears on the same screen, you have a non-SSO account.
I forgot my password
Section titled “I forgot my password”On the sign-in page, enter your email and click Verify Email. When the password field appears, click Forgot Password? and follow the email link. This only works for non-SSO accounts. SSO users reset their password through Microsoft.
How do I change my password?
Section titled “How do I change my password?”Click your name in the sidebar to open the My Account screen. Click Change Password (only available for non-SSO accounts). SSO users change their password through their Microsoft account.
How do I add a new user to my organization?
Section titled “How do I add a new user to my organization?”Open the sidebar → Employees → click the + button. Fill in the form and click Save. nSpec sends an invitation email automatically. See Managing Employees in nSpec.
How do I remove a user?
Section titled “How do I remove a user?”Edit the employee and uncheck Is Active to deactivate them (recommended) or click Delete to remove them permanently. Deactivation preserves their history; deletion does not.
Projects and Inspections
Section titled “Projects and Inspections”How do I create my first project?
Section titled “How do I create my first project?”See Your First nSpec Project for the full walkthrough. The short version: create a client first (sidebar → Clients → +), then create a project under that client (sidebar → Projects → +), then create an inspection inside the project.
Which report type should I pick?
Section titled “Which report type should I pick?”See Understanding nSpec Report Types for the full breakdown. The most common types are QA Report (27), QA Existing (28), and Water Test (32, 33). When in doubt, ask your supervisor.
Can I change the report type after creating an inspection?
Section titled “Can I change the report type after creating an inspection?”No. Report type is locked at creation. To change it, you need to delete the inspection and create a new one — but you’ll lose any observations and photos you’ve added. Contact support before deleting if you’ve already done substantial work.
Can I delete a project?
Section titled “Can I delete a project?”Yes, with the Delete Projects permission, but closing is almost always better. Deletion is permanent and removes the project, its inspections, and its photos. Closing hides it from the default view but keeps everything intact. See Managing Projects in nSpec.
How do I generate a report?
Section titled “How do I generate a report?”Open the inspection and click the Report button in the screen header. nSpec renders the PDF on the server and downloads it to your browser. (Type 42 Procore Compliance reports don’t have a Report button — that data lives in Procore.)
Photos and Observations
Section titled “Photos and Observations”How many photos can I attach to an observation?
Section titled “How many photos can I attach to an observation?”Up to 4 per observation. Same limit applies to action items, specimens, and report content items. If you need more, create additional observations or use Quick Capture to create stand-alone photos.
What’s the difference between an observation and a draft?
Section titled “What’s the difference between an observation and a draft?”Drafts are quick, in-progress notes that don’t appear in the published report. Observations are finalized findings that do appear in the report. Use drafts to capture quickly in the field, then convert them to observations when you’re ready. See Draft Observations.
What are photo tags for?
Section titled “What are photo tags for?”Tags are categorical labels for photos — “Cracking”, “Spalling”, etc. They’re useful for filtering, searching, and feeding the AI training pipeline. Your administrator manages the list of available tags.
Procore
Section titled “Procore”What’s the difference between nSpec and NSPEC-X?
Section titled “What’s the difference between nSpec and NSPEC-X?”nSpec is the standard product. NSPEC-X is the same product configured for customers whose primary system is Procore. NSPEC-X tenants get an extra Procore login step and additional Procore-specific fields on action items. See What is NSPEC-X.
Can I switch my tenant to Procore?
Section titled “Can I switch my tenant to Procore?”Switching tenant types is not self-service. Contact support@nxtconstruction.ai to request the change.
